Zoning & Housing Violations

    The Planning and Development Department uses a reactive (complaint driven) enforcement program. The Division of Building and Safety responds to complaints on potential zoning and housing violations.  The Department requires that the reporting party provide their name and a contact phone number; this information will be kept confidential. However, should this complaint become part of a criminal and/or civil court case, the information may be provided to the District Attorney or any such other appropriate authority as part of their investigation.


    Weekend Zoning Enforcement Discontinued -- Effective July 1, 2008
    Due to budget constraints Planning and Development must discontinue weekend zoning enforcement. This change is effective July 1, 2008. No other code enforcement program changes are anticipated at this time. Our 24 hour code complaint phone line is 805-934-6251 in North County, 805-565-3558 in South County and 805-686-5020 in Santa Ynez.
